Plain Dosa

Plain dosa a South Indian street food prepared using rice and urad dal, it is called a South Indian rice pancake.

Ingredients for Plain Dosa

  • Dosa rice 200 gms
  • urad dhal / kandipappu 100 gms
  • fenugreek 1 tsp
  • whole green gram 50 gms
  • Poha /attukulu 50 gms
  • Water 1 cup (depend on batter consistency)
  • salt to taste
  • Refined oil 2 tbsp

Preparation of Plain dosa

  • Firstly wash and Soak rice, urad dhal/kandipappu, Fenugreek, green gram for around 7 hours.
  • then 1/2 hour before grinding the ingredients add Poha/attukulu to the container.
  • Wash and drain water.
  • blend the ingredients in to a fine and soft batter by  adding water, and keep aside the batter for 9 hours for fermentation.
  • Once the fermentation done, bit by bit batter amount can increase.
  • Before cooking mix the batter along with salt, so the batter is ready to prepare.
  • Apply fry pan with butter over medium flame.
  • Pour 1/2 cup of batter on to the fry pan and spread it in to oval shape.
  • Then grease with melted butter on top of dosa, and cook till it turns to slight golden brown colour.
  • Once the dosa is cooked, slowly remove from tava and serve hot.
  • Finally serve with chutney and sambar.
