Drumstick curry – First of all when we speak about Drumstick, in South India we can see lot of Drumstick trees are grown in front of the houses. So this itself make us to think how important the drumstick is for our health benefits.

Drumstick curry

Ingredients for Drumstick curry

  • Drumsticks 4 No’s (tender)
  • Onion 2 No’s fine chopped
  • Tomato 2 No’s
  • Curry leaves 1 strip
  • Ginger, garlic paste 1 tbsp
  • Green chillies 3 No’s
  • Coriander seeds 1 tsp
  • Coconut grated 150 gms
  • Channa dal 1tsp
  • Red chilli powder 1 tsp
  • Mustard seeds 1 tsp
  • Cumin seeds 1 tsp
  • Asafoetida (hing) 1 pinch
  • Turmeric powder ½ tsp
  • Oil 2 tbsp
  • Coriander leaves 3 strips
  • Salt to taste

Preparation of Drumstick curry

  • First in the beginning wash and cut the drumsticks into pieces between 2-3 inches in length.
  • Secondly heat tawa, add oil, mustard seeds, Channa dal, Cumin seeds, onions and curry leaves.
  • Mean while grind grated coconut with green chillies, tomato, coriander seeds. Until it looks like a fluid chutney.
  • Once the onions turns to slight golden brown. Also add the grind fluid chutney, ginger garlic paste, asafoetida, turmeric and salt cook for 2-3 minutes.
  • Know add the pieces of drumsticks and mix well. And pour the remaining water and cook in medium flame, with close lid, so it will cook fast.
  • Stir thoroughly, so that it will not stick to the bottom of the vessel.
  • Let the whole mixture boil till the drumsticks are cooked.
  • Mix thoroughly and remove from flame.
  • Finally garnished with coriander leaves and serve hot

Note

  • You can add whole tamarind or pulp of tamarind if require (optional).
  • In addition even jaggery also can be added.
